Lean Recruitment & Talent Strategy

Our proprietary process — Lean Recruitment™ — was initially developed in 2013 in response to a client who had just won a large government grant, needed to staff the project quickly, and did not have the funds to hire a traditional recruiter.

Civitas Strategies enthusiastically took on the project, both to help our client and to see if it was possible to develop a recruitment system that could provide the high-quality talent our nonprofit clients need, at a price they could afford.

After reviewing over 100 studies on effective recruiting from both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors, we built a new business model designed to achieve the same results as large recruitment firms, but at 50% of the cost, in 40% of the time.

The resulting system — Lean Recruitment™ — is highly effective, yet differs from typical recruitment practices in the following ways:

  • Utilizes a marketing approach — Job announcements are designed to highlight the benefits of working for your organization, attracting potential candidates that otherwise may not be seeking new employment.

  • Reduces cognitive bias — We use research-driven candidate scorecards to help ensure the best talent is clearly identified as objectively as possible.

  • Designed to seeks out the strongest talent in the field using headhunting strategies — Specifically those who are not currently looking but would make the best prospects.

  • Leverages free and low-cost technology — Reduces job posting and other search-related costs, bringing you high-quality candidates for a fraction of the price.

  • Uses a modular system — With Lean Recruitment, you engage us only for the services you need, which further reduces costs, and allows for an engagement that is customizable to any organizational budget.

Succession Planning using Leadership Legacy©
We use our own three-step system to reduce the risk of an unexpected transition (including our Knowledge Capture© tool), create a pipeline for leadership positions, and facilitate smooth transitions. The system uses a graduated approach where it can be applied in part or in total.

Human Resources Advisement
Our human resources advisement services include support around hiring, creating employee handbooks and core policies, compensation consulting, exits, succession plans, and terminations.
